CSCW 98 (Computer Supported Collaborative Work)
- Dave Nay
Dave gave a quick tour of some of the highlights of CSCW. Below are links to some of the items he mentioned.
CHI 99: Computers and Trust Relationships
- Bob Wilson
Bob spoke about the conflicts between anonymity and privacy on the web. He mentioned that the qualities of similarity, consistency, appearance (not sloppy or shoddy) and fluency (how comfortable - fluid interaction) affect levels of trust.
Clifford Nass participated on a panel and was interviewed at CHI 99. His page provides links to papers related to this subject. (www.stanford.edu/group/STS/nass.shtml)
CHI 99: Design teams
- Grant Skousen
Grant showed clips from Randy Pausch's Building Virtual Worlds class at Carnegie Mellon. Cross disciplinary teams there build a 3-d world every two weeks using Alice software. Also, briefly discussed the environment at the MAYA Design Group. Both of these events were CHI after hour tours.
A quote from the Randy Pausch video: "The only way to really be part of something bigger than yourself is to step outside of your own community and work with people who are trained differently than you are."
CHI 99: Web design tips
- Stan Page
Stan covered several points from his informative conference highlights document CHI 99 Conference Highlights.
